Today I went for my first ABW session, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I new there would be some pain before there was gain. (Yes fascial stretching does hurt)
My session was 45min in length and Michael worked on my pecs and lats. I have an extremely tight upper body which limits my ability to move through a full range of motion and impacts the quality of my life.
I have been to massage sessions, chiropractor sessions and acupuncture and none of these have gotten the results that I got from just one ABW session. I couldn’t ask for much more. I would invite and recommend anyone to give it a try, you would be amazed.
I was looking for something to truly motivate me towards reaching my goals of losing weight, getting my Diabetes under control and feeling better mentally and physically.
I found CrossFit Guelph through my wife who had joined their boot camp. She told me how great it was and that I should try it I started with six weeks of personal training with owner Michael Fall then proceeded to regular CrossFit classes.
When I started I couldn’t even do the warm ups without being out of breath and needing to sit down, just hanging from a bar was not happening and I didn’t even know where to start with lifting weights. I often wondered what everyone thought of me, but everyone was supportive and there was no negative judgment passed down, ego’s were left at the door.
The coaches are continuously encouraging and making me work for what I needed to reach my goals. They helped me with my nutrition, mind and body. After a year and a half I feel better, in every way, than I have in my entire life.
I started my goal of losing weight, before starting CrossFit, at nearly 300lbs, I got down to 250 lbs on my own through diet but could not do more, CrossFit helped me over that hump and for that I am grateful. I would recommend CrossFit Guelph to anyone interested in feeling better.
Since joining I no longer have Diabetic symptoms after having them for 15 years, I have lost almost 45lbs additional pounds and feel and look stronger than ever, they have coached me through many of the movements associated with CrossFit and I can now do most of them successfully, I can even do 4-5 strict pull ups.
No matter what you feel your skill level is at it doesn’t matter, there is a starting point for everyone. CrossFit Guelph has helped me, and I am sure they will help many more achieve their goals.
I have always been an athlete (hockey, football, golf, soccer, running and weight training) and fitness and exercise has always come easy to me. Four years ago I was diagnosed and hospitalized with bi-polar 2 disorder and all my energy went into survival. I struggled to get back into something that was good for the “soul” and just couldn’t get the momentum going. In the past three weeks my mental health has improved beyond anything I could ever imagine. I am doing things again that were pre-diagnosis and things I thought I wouldn’t be able to do with this oppressive label hanging over me. I’ve spent years on medications and going through my own therapy, and while these were helpful- my experience at CrossFit Guelph have renewed something in me. I wanted to let you know the impact your gym is having on people like me. I feel whole again and its something I didn’t think i was ever going to get back.
Thank you for all of your time, energy and patience. It is welcomed and valued.
Through Crossfit Guelph I have dramatically increased my strength and mobility. At 68, this is particularly important. Michael Fall makes the process challenging, fun and always interesting. I have learned a lot about facing challenges, setting goals, and the nutrition it takes to succeed. I would highly recommend Crossfit Guelph to anyone who wants to improve their quality of life.
Almost 3 years ago I was looking for something new and decided to give CrossFit a try. I was finding my usual exercise routine boring and I was gaining weight. I ended up at CrossFit Guelph and have not looked back. CrossFit Guelph and owner Michael Fall have truly been instrumental in transforming my life. I have lost weight, gotten stronger and best of all found self confidence and happiness that I didn’t realize were always with me. As I approach my fiftieth birthday I have never felt better. After almost 3 years I still love CFG and can’t wait to come to class each day. The CrossFit Guelph Community is amazing and I have made some wonderful friends. Anyone looking for something life changing should definitely give it a try.
CrossFit Guelph was recommended by a friend to whom I am grateful.
I was extremely nervous after having watched some CrossFit videos but despite that I met with Mike in April 2017.
I was impressed with the atmosphere and all the friendly and encouraging people in class. It was also very obvious to me how knowledgeable and experienced Mike was. Even when you think your not capable of some things CFG will get you stronger, surprising you with how much capability you have.
Coaches are eager to help and always make sure you have proper form.
I am almost 47 years old and I am the strongest I have ever been ! It’s very challenging, but also lots of fun because of all the great people I have met.
It is almost 6 months since I started Crossfit and I can’t believe how much has changed. In July I was over 200 lbs, had a 38? waist, a sore back, knees, feet and really had to struggle to do 1 pull up. I decided to try Crossfit after my 50th birthday and after trying all the traditional gym memberships, trainers, etc.
Coming into the Christmas season I weigh 185, have a size 34 waist and my body fat % has dropped 7%. I’m dead lifting 290#, bench pressing 195#, pullups are a breeze, and haven’t even thought of my back for months. The most important difference however is the fact that I can’t wait to get to my next Crossfit workout. I love the people, the atmosphere, the challenge and the results.
Thanks for your guidance and encouragement. Rob Bryson, Vice President, P&H Grain Group. Guelph, Ontario
Up until four years ago I was a die-hard ‘cardio’ addict. But after a devastating injury to my knee, I entered the realm of strength training for rehabilitation. I also realized that I could no longer compensate for less-than-stellar eating habits with excessive miles of running, swimming, and biking, due to my injury. Enter Crossfit. Since discovering Crossfit, I have made the biggest strength improvements ever, discovered that high-intensity training is a much more efficient way of making gains in overall fitness, and best of all found a wonderful community of like-minded people. That said, I have trained at a number of different ‘boxes’ over the years whilst moving across the country for school/work, and I have learned that not all ‘Crossfit’ gyms are alike.
I have been to the box that unintentionally pressures its participants to go for the ‘Rx’ (prescribed) weight, to do more than is safe and effective in training. I have been to the box that has an amazing social atmosphere, but perhaps is too focused on accomplishing the ‘sexy metcons’ (long ‘testing’ not ‘training’ type workouts) within that collegial environment. I have been to the box that has its main focus on Olympic Lifting, with exceptional coaching with regard to technique and form, but perhaps a little less work on conditioning. After I moved to Guelph, I was very pleased to find a box that seems to have balanced the majority of what I look for in a Crossfit gym: strategic strength-based programming; a conditioning program that is ‘smart’ and doesn’t exhaust you one day to the next; occasional ‘testing’ workouts; a coaching staff that prioritizes technique, safety, and operating within your personal limitations; and a great, supportive community.
So if you are looking at CrossFit Gyms, remember that not all CrossFits are equal. And if you want my opinion, I think that CrossFit Guelph is one of the boxes that has its priorities straight. I wouldn’t train there otherwise!
Sorry I didn’t get a chance to come in and say goodbye before we moved. You made a hugely positive impact on my life. You do a fantastic job, and run a great gym.
Thanks for the good memories, improved health, and increased confidence.
