What exercise or sports did you participate in before joining CrossFit Guelph?
I played ice hockey and downhill skiing in the winter and road cycling in the summer as well as strength training year round.
How long have you been training with CrossFit Guelph
Favourite exercise or workout?
I would have to say deadlifts. It is a great full body exercise. It is a simple movement but at the same time very demanding. As for conditioning, I like anything with a variety of movements.
Least Favourite exercise or workout?
Describe your first day at CrossFit Guelph?
Tiring, frustrating, awesome, humbling. As someone who thought they were in reasonable shape it was a real eye opener. I was gassed afterwards but couldn't wait to come back again and try to do better.
What sort of changes have you seen since joining CrossFit Guelph?
It has been transformative. Along with a clean diet, I have lost 30 lbs. I have increased my max's on all of my lifts. When I started, I did not have the mobility, so I had to deadlift off of blocks. My max was 365 lbs. Last week I pulled 420 lbs from the floor - a personal best. My conditioning and mobility are the best they have ever been.
What advice would you give people who are curious about trying CrossFit Guelph?
Just try it. And when you do - don't give up. Keep moving. It will be challenging! Sometimes CrossFit is like Buckley's cough syrup - "it tastes awful but it works". And that is what I love about it. CrossFit can push you to places you don't want to go or don't think you can go. But you do and you become stronger for it. The people and the atmosphere are very supportive. It is a great experience that you won't regret!
