 Matthew "Mobility" Angell

Matthew Angell
I have been an avid lifter for the better part of the last 10 years as I was interested in becoming a stronger, more powerful athlete for junior hockey. Starting out with typical bodybuilding style hypertrophy work for the majority of that time, I did my own programming with the little knowledge I had. Basically, whatever I felt like training that day.

In August of 2013, I sustained a pretty severe back injury. Being a spectator to anything physical for the next 6 months, I decided to go back to school and get my RMT certification. This taught me a lot about biomechanics, anatomy, postures and positions that could have prevented my injury and allows me to help prevent and rehabilitate others.

I stumbled upon Crossfit during this journey as I dug deep into the work of several movement professionals. I learned that Crossfit isn't only a workout, its a movement practice. We learn the proper way to squat, pull, push, hinge, press etc. I finally joined Crossfit Guelph in April of 2016 and working with CFG owner Michael Fall, I knew this was the place I wanted to train. He helped me fine tune some of my lifts and instantly made me more efficient. The community here at CFG is very welcoming and supportive.

I got involved in the Mobility class on Saturday Mornings after a month or so after joining CFG. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of anatomy and movement with the members and like to show them ways to essentially take the brakes off their movement. I truly believe the average human being needs to be stronger and more mobile and it's great to be able to do both here at CFG

Erik Ostenfelt

Erik Ostenfelt
I got my start in Crossfit at Crossfit Core K-Town in Kenora, Ontario in 2012 while looking to shake up my offseason training program. I expected hard workouts, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with the community and atmosphere the way that I did. Crossfit changed the way I saw fitness.
After graduating from Police Foundations at Confederation College in Thunder Bay I moved to Guelph to continue my education at the university. Putting my junior hockey career behind me meant looking for a new outlet for my spirited personality. I gave rowing a shot and although I saw potential and had success, it wasn’t what I was looking for.
I loved participating in Crossfit, but fitness is a passion for me and I wanted more than to be a participant. I received my L-1 in March of 2015 and I was welcomed into Crossfit Guelph as an intern with open arms. I instantly fell in love with the community at CFG and it quickly became a second home. Since joining CFG, my passion for Crossfit has slowly morphed itself into a dedication to weightlifting. Therein I was able to find my love of sport that I had been searching for since aging out of junior hockey. I obtained my weightlifting coaches certification in June of 2015 and it has since become an obsession that I hope to eventually take to the competitive circuit.
I have a passion for helping others increase performance and unlock their full potential. To me there is only one thing in the world that feels better than hitting a new PR, and that’s watching someone else hit one. There is beauty and grace in perfect movement, and that’s what I would like to help people achieve.
You’ll find me at the gym at any given time helping out wherever I’m needed; most likely reciting thoughtful and inspirational quotes from Karate Kid.

Dan Neesom
Dan found CrossFit in 2011 while studying at the University of Guelph, and since then has been addicted to not only training and competing, but the community at CrossFit Guelph. He came to CrossFit Guelph looking for a way to increase his personal fitness level and is now a level one trainer who can share his passion for CrossFit with others. Dan is focused on encouraging others to achieve their own personal best performance while focusing on improving technique. Perfecting the movements improves performance and prevents injury.

Dan is a super nice guy, always has a smile on his face and generally is just fun to be around. He is always challenging himself and others to be their best. Dan survived our internship program and now after 3 years at CFG we are proud to bring him onboard as a trainer. Dan can be found running the 5 and 6  pm classes on Wednesday night.

Stephen Borghese
CrossFit Coach. Like most of us, I was never an exceptional athlete – painfully average some might say. Mediocrity in youth sports continued into “remaining active as an adult”; recreational sports, running, lifting weights, and DVD workouts became the norm.

I tried Crossfit to ‘shake things up’ and – following a seriously humbling WOD - have experienced continued measurable improvement in my overall fitness ever since. My passion for Crossfit has grown over the years and has morphed from purely personal improvement to genuine interest and enjoyment in seeing growth in the abilities of all members at the box.

Our core principles of technique, consistency, and intensity, combined with the passion of our coaches, are the basis for the continual improvement that is evident everyday at Crossfit Guelph

I’m a proud father of three boys and husband to an amazing woman who remains both motherly and wifely despite the abundance of testosterone within our walls.
