One day back in 2006...

Since the age of 15 I have known that all I wanted to do was help people.

We began our journey in 2006 in a small studio in obscurity figuring out what to do with this new type of training. At that time CrossFit was new to Canada and there were only 8 other affiliates Nationwide. We were to become the 9th.

At CrossFit Guelph our focus is on Coaching. We take pride in teaching our members how to move well, to understand how the body works as a sum of its parts and how mastering a few basic movements lends itself to a better quality of life. Our first rule is do no harm and we take this very seriously. Training should not lead to injury. It should be safe, fun, challenging and accessible to all.

In 2006 I was the head instructor at Guelph Shorinjiryu Kudaka Karate Club and nearing the end of my fighting career. I was looking to really push for a few more years but at 38  felt I needed something more, I needed an edge, a secret weapon.

Like most everyone else I ventured to the local gym and after a few months signed up for personal training. It did not take long to realize that this was not what I needed. Machine based training was boring, low skill, and did not treat the body as a whole.  My personal trainer, a nice guy, was more interested in talking about what movies were out than training me.  I wanted to develop greater athleticism, be stronger, be more mobile and to be better at the game of life. I was looking for something to keep me motivated and give me something to train for.

That’s when I discovered CrossFit.

Immediately after my first official Wod (Workout of the Day) at CrossFit Alchemy in Hamilton, one of only 8 CrossFits in Canada at the time, I knew I had found what I was looking for. CrossFit was the answer to that 15 year olds dream to help and the fountain of youth for a 38 year old Karate-ka

The rest, as they say, is history.

First we crawled, then we walked, now we run.
